Well your comparing apples to oranges. One is a dual core the other a single core. A better comparison would be a Pentium D vs Core duo. Since the Core Duo 1.66 is the entry level DUo chip you should compare it to an entry level Pentium D chip like the 920. My guess would be that they would be quite close in performance with the Core Duo running coooler and more efficeintly.
I wonder if AMD will release a mobile dual core chip to compete with the core duo?? Maybe a Turion64x2??

I am confused about why laptop processor speed is so slower than Desktop PC processor and cost twice as much as PC?

Different architecture. Different requirements. Different optimisations. Different markets that can withstand different prices.

Very simple.

1. Its hard to cram same components into smaller space, price increases
2. LCD screens are almost always more higher quality than desktop versions which adds to laptop prices and desktops mostly use CRT still, which costs nothing compared to LCD
3. Its hard to make a component that performs same, yet consume little power as possible, price increases

About CPUs, you would need VASTLY more understanding to know what we are talking about.

Well, My Pentium 750 M (1.86ghz) beats my Northwood Core P4HT at 3ghz in Prime95 if that means anything. With slower fsb and ram at that

The pentium-m(are core duo, is a dual core pentium-m) is a compeltely differant architecture than the P4, you can't compare the clock speeds directly. A 1.66ghz dual core pentium-m, will likely outperform a 2.8ghz Pentium-D dual core in a lot of things, while running much much cooler. The pentium-m is better at gaming than the netburst chips as well, and if you are doing heavy multitasking, or running SMP aware applications, the core duo will also have a good advantage over a 3.2ghz Pentium-4.

They are making some desktop boards that support core duo as well, and clock for clock that compete pretty well with AMD's X2's, you just need to OC them a little farther to reach the same clock speeds.
