Laptop problems

I have a Dell 450 mhz laptop that has some problems. Whenever I minimize/maxamize a program, it seems to "peel" off the screen. Also, doing the smallest task, like opening Microsoft Word, makes Winamp skip. The computer just seems to be working too hard. There is hardly anything on it for programs. I don't think that a reformat is in order for such a problem. Of course, in Safe Mode, the particular "driver" that causes the problem doesn't load, so it works perfectly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What type ofDell is it, what OS, bios version, how much memory etc?

First, Always upgrade the bios, next, add more memory, and also download the latest drivers from dell for your laptop. If you can, get W2K pro, I run it on my Dell Insperion 7000 and have no issues like you are talking about.

It is a Dell Inspiron, 7000 series, with 64 megs of ram, running Windows 98. I know that a program must have caused it, and maybe corrupted some system files that load in Normal mode when Windows boots (doesn't happen in Safe mode). I think a program called "Webshots" might have done it. I did uninstall it and searched the reg for anything left behind, but it may have over written some system files. Any suggestions on how to determine the corrupted/overwritten files would be appreciated.
