Trying to fix my mother's laptop.. Acer 5102WLMi.

When it starts up, it gets the blue screen right after the Windows loading splash screen.

I ran a memtest and got 2 Passes and 29 Errors after 2 hours...so I figured it was the RAM.

I just bought new ones and put them in, only to discover the same problem.
The blue screen flashes too quickly for me to see what the problem is..

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

Have you run memtest on the new RAM?

You could try a Linux Live CD to see if that will boot the computer up. Or boot into Safe Mode (keep pressing F8 when the laptop starts up) - you should be able to disable the "reboot on error" through MSConfig (run: MSCONFIG). Thus, an error message will be left up on the screen.

I just did a memtest on the new RAM, and after 40 minutes there is 0 Pass and 8 Errors. How is this possible! I just bought it!
So frustrating...could something else be faulty on the laptop that causes the RAM to corrupt itself?

The memory controller could be bad I suppose, or really any number of other things. How old is the laptop?

Just checked the manufacturer date and it is from 2006. I don't even know where to begin thinking about what's wrong as I am not too familiar with laptops.
And I imagine this RAM can't be refunded anymore....sigh.

Okay, put in the RAM in another laptop and it booted up to Windows fine. Also tried the old RAM which I thought was bad...and it also booted up fine! Now I'm stuck with 2 sets of perfectly good RAM.

So I guess it's the laptop motherboard itself that is corrupt? Or could it be something else?

I tried that, but upon the initial restart it goes back into a blue windows screen that forces a chkdsk..
