Laptop Problem

Ok... I bought a notebook couple of years ago when i was in South Africa. I it was working fine until one day it just stopped and so i thought the battery was down and i pluged in the charger and tried to turn it on and it would not it just made this pattering noice. So i pulled the plug back out and opened it. when i opened the part near the cpu it was really hot. This one little card like thing which i don't know what it is called so i have pictures below but anyways it was really hot so i think that was the problem. Can anyone help me out?The card that was really hot

yup that the voltage regulator alright. you'll need to find someone local to you thats experianced with this kind of thing. you don't need an EE just someone that has the equipment to test and replace as needed. its probably a $.50 cent part that you need just a mattter of finding sombody who knows how to use a scope and soldering station. got any friends who work in manufacturing.

keep in mind thats its possible that that chip is desgned to run warm, or perhaps something else down the line fried and took it out with it.
 
whoa, judging by the looks of that Pentium MMX 200 MHz (same exact proc in a 8 year old pc i have sitting around) you'd have to think about whether its worth fixing or not, you'd be better off treating yourself to a new laptop, as todays laptops are at least 15 times faster than what you've got there
