Laptop problem...CDRom just disappears.

Laptop is an IBM R32, I don't know when or why this happens, but it seems to happen (I think) after power management kicks in. It definitely doesn't happen right away.

Anyway, basically what happens is the CDRom just seems to disappear. You can't find it in the device manager, or anywhere else, and have to reboot the computer to be able to use it again.

Windows has been reinstalled. The system board has been replaced. The CDRom has been replaced. Bios has been flashed and reset to defaults.

Tough problem -- any ideas?

It looks like it isn't related to power management. If the DVD/CD hasn't been used recently, it just disappears. 😕

Yup, and I have. It's already been in once and I need to keep the laptop (working on a deadline right now), so I thought I'd see if anyone here had any ideas. IBM is stumped.
