Laptop power jack problem

I have a Compaq R3000 series laptop (R3060) that seems to have a problem with the power jack. From my searching, this seems to be a common problem. Can someone provide some guidance on the most direct route (i.e. fewest parts to disassemble) to give me access to the motherboard area where the power jack is. I want to attempt to resolder it to the board. Any other helpful hint are welcome also. I have never taken a laptop apart but I have soldered several things.

TIA

I had to do that to an older HP once, it was pretty smoth, all told. If my experience was at all representative, you'll end up taking the thing more or less wholly to bits to get the mainboard out. Just take it slowly, don't lose any pieces, keep track of which screw goes where, and you'll be alright. If you can find a service guide on HP's site, or elsewhere on the web, your life would be much easier; but it can be done without any documentation.

Also, use a low power, fine tipped soldering iron. The power feed traces are pretty beefy by laptop mainboard standards; but you really don't want to bork something expensive.
