I have a home lan with two machines running Win98, over a crossover cable.
My Asus A1 laptop runs WinMe. Can I plug into the one of the PC's with a usb network cable and still use the ethernet lan? or is that mixing apples and oranges?

It not very fast, but it should work.

Two USB gizmos are available:

1. USB to USB - It is a cable with a dongle in the middle that allows connection between two-computer via the USB ports.

USB Direct Connect

2. Ethernet to USB ? A little module that connect to a computer USB on one side, and has a RJ-45 connector to go to NIC or Hub/switch, on the other side.

USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter
