Laptop PCMCIA port substitute

My PCMCIA ports on my laptop are dead. The tech rep said it is either a MB or PCMCIA chip problem and would require sending the laptop in for repair. It's a ProStar Celeron 466 laptop and I don't feel it is worth investing the money in for repair.
Is there any serial, usb, ect. external adapter available to enable me to use a PCMCIA card (modem / network card) ?🙁

but the cost of a pcmcia reader would be far in excess of any newer usb product - and as far as I know you cant get a pcmcia reader that isnt pci based due to the bandwidth issues (120 mb/s)

The item I have ever seen is for a desktop that allows you to use PCMCIA cards. One is PCI adapter and the other is some PCMCIA/FDD combo and I believe the PCMCIA connects to an ISA card. Either way, I have never seen anything that would work on a laptop.
