I recently bought a laptop and want to know what's the best way to prevent thief. I don't leave anything unattended but there has been one break-in to my house so i am worried.
Has anyone used one of those security tag such as those from STOP THEFT ? Is that really any good?

Buy a gun.

BWAHAHAHA! Let's see who this brings out. ;) Damnit, I'm kidding, don't turn this into a gun thread.

Crack RC5. Really, go to the Distributed Computing forum and ask about laptop theft prevention. Running RC5 has returned hardware before. I believe someone from this BBS actually found their stuff that way.

I don't trust the wire cables and such items that fasten the Laptop down, if someone wants it bad enough they'll pry it or whatever it takes to get it.

So play Mr. CIA and hide the goods man. Hard to steal something if you don't even know it's there.

Of course if they knew you had the Laptop to begin with and went to your place specifically to hunt it down, then you should get a gun...hehe :p

You can buy a lock/alarm that goes off according to being cut and/or motion. Worst Buy carries these things.

Unfortunately I have no links or names, but there is one company that does a method similar to lojak for cars.

They place a small transmitter in the laptop and can track it when needed.
