Laptop, or PC, or both?

I'm going off to college this fall and I need to either build a computer, or get a laptop or both.
If I get a laptop its going to be a MacBook. The system I have in mind is going to be cheap. I really would love to build a gaming rig, but I guess I have priorities. So far I have come up with this.

Sempron 2800 AM2 - 48.00

One gigabyte of Corsair DDR2 Ram - 74.99

Thermal Take PSU - 39.99

Biostar 7600 GS - 109.99

Biostar AM2 Motherboard - 79.99

Viewsonic Widescreen Monitor - 204.99

80 Gigabyte hard drive - 43.99

Chenming Server Case 55.99

Comes out to be 691.86 Shipped. What would you do to reduce it? I'm a gamer, but as of lately a very light gamer.

My other idea is just get the WS monitor, a new videocard and the case for my current setup. I have a ASUS nforce 2 motherboard, 2500+ Barton, 1.5 Gigs of Ram. I'm still happy with the performance of this pc, I could hold out a bit longer. Then I could get the laptop and bring that home when I do come home and not worry about my pc being abused since its got almost nothing worthy in it.

I still want a MacBook, there are no pc laptops that interest me, they all seem cheap in the range of the 1100 dollar Macbook I'm interested in.

Whos in college and what did you guys use? I really don't know what I should get 🙁

Well when I go off to college, I'm only taking a laptop. To me it's pointless to bring both if you can get a laptop with a decent video card (X1600 Mobile or something).

depends on your finances. you won't be gaming for long on a laptop. you can't upgrade it at all, and buying a powerful one costs a pretty penny. if you can afford a new gaming laptop every year or two thats great. otherwise buy a laptopfor its real purpose...office apps/web😛 its putting all your eggs in one basket if you get a laptop.
