Laptop or notebook which to get for under $1000?

I need to get a new PC for my wife?s home business but I don?t know where to begin. All she uses it for is internet access and some light word processing. The most intense game she plays is Mahjongg so we don?t need a super video card. I guess that 256mb of memory should be enough.

She wants XP Pro like she has now but now she wants portability in the house. I don?t have any experience with portables other than what I see on the Dell commercials. Help me decide on what to consider.

She said that Dell was advertising one on TV for $500. The more inexpensive the better.

Yeah, there's usually a celeron based laptop selling for around $600. Could go that route or used.

Guessing you only need XP Home, 256mb should be fine. A celeron chip is plenty oomph for what she needs. Otherwise you could go used.
