(Laptop) omnibook xe2dc charging problems

My omnibook does not charge my battery. I am currently using a Hi Capacity brand AC adapter.
When I plug in my battery even if the AC adapter is plugged in the battery just discharges and the laptop turns off.

Could it be my adapter ?

Only changes I made on my laptop is install windows XP and installed a larger harddrive.

How old is the Laptop Battery?

Li-on batteries do have a limited number a charges and
discharges built into their lives.

If the unit is more than 3 years old then most likely it is
the battery that has gone bad.

The symptoms you describe point to a failed battery.
For the laptop to power-on, some charge is needed within the battery
even with it powered by the AC adapter.

Is it a 266 or 333 model?

thanks for your reply... I ended up using an oem hp adapter and it was charging the battery fine... strange though since my Hi Capacity Adapeter had the same specs of the HP notebook adapter... but whatever the case.. it works now.

some laptops are finiky, even though the voltage may be the same, the amps may be lower or the power frequency might be different, often they only like working on the one meant for it... though ive never heard of a laptop that had your problem have a problem with the battery, not sure how that would work, a dead or damaged battery might cause it to NOT boot, even when plugged in, but a charge isnt REQUIRED in any battery to allow a laptop to turn on, all laptops will boot on AC alone with battery completely removed.
