sticker offers both serial numbers for my laptop, dated back to 2003.

the stickers sez

XP Pro
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

2000
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Can I do a dual boot option with either serial keys used for an XP and 2000 configuration, legally? Or am I just supposed to chose one OS and stick with that serial key, assuming that I don't want tp pay for anything else but have the installation disks ready to install

I am guessing the second license number is for Office 2000 not Windows 2000. However, if it is a valid license, then there shouldn't be anything illegal about dual booting it because MS has already allocated that number.

XP Pro
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

2000
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I just checked, here's the accurate reading:

2-CPU

XP Pro
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

2000 Professional
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I guess it doesn't really matter since XP Pro on a good processor is similarly as fast as 2000 Pro if know what I'm talkin' about.

I have seen those before on more business oriented laptops, is for running either xp or 2000 pro but not both,as some still needed 2000 pro when xp was still coming out as it is still one license, but there is no technical limitation in using both keys

Those were used by HP for a while. Made to choose between one of those operating systems and only one or the other.
