please excuse the no caps. i had surgery and only have the use of one arm and hitting the shift key hurts.

the backstory:

toshiba c655d-s5300

my daughter run across the room and snags the cord on her foot and the laptop takes off. the laptop runs fine until the battery dies, it will not charge.

first thing was to try a different power supply. matched all specs and tried a universal power supply. no luck.

i replaced then replaced the dc power jack on the laptop... still no charge.

is there anything else i should consider? there doesn't seem to be any other changeable parts.

the laptop was your standard $299 basic model so i wont put much money in it... but i would like to have another working laptop.

So does the laptop power on at all now? If it doesn't, it probably broke the power connector inside the laptop.

Sorry to hear about your pain there rudder. What is the recovery time?

No powering on at all. I replaced the power connector.. But I guess I need to take it all the way apart.

I tore my bicep two weeks ago. I will be in a sling for 6 weeks. Not supposed to use my arm at all for 3 weeks. Taking a nice break from gaming. Luckily there are no must play games. Last time I had shoulder surgery my wife had bought me half-life 2 and I had to stare at the box for 2 months.

The laptop should power on without the battery. Is the DC Jack solder or one of those on harness? I would double check the DC Jack.

lol, Well, it's the thought that counts, right? Maybe you have a friend who can help you get a new connector soldered in there. Same thing happened to my other laptop, and I just keep putting off the fix. I bring my word laptop home every night anyway.

The c655d uses a connector that attaches to the board and then has a length of wire that runs to the jack. If you replaced that and the laptop will still not charge I am afraid it is FUBAR. My recommendation would be to sell it on ebay for parts.

An IC probably for charging the battery shorted out when the adapter was yanked out. It's FUBAR.
