I have a compaq presario 1200 here with no video Niether with the laptop screen, or plugging in a monitor. The lights come on and the fan runs, but no video. I don't here any sound like windows logon, but it would be going thru the scan disk and all of that because of it being turned off without logging off. And my hearing isn't good enough to be able to tell if the hard drive is spinning up...I may be able to find a stethescope around here somewhere...in the mean time anybody have experianced this before? BTW..I think it has win 98 on it....it's not my computer.

Thanks!!

Laptops are like desktops in that if they can't detect a video device, they won't POST.

I think the 1200 has a seperate video module. If you can lift the keyboard out of the chassis (usually two clips at the top edge of the keyboard tray) then you should see a metal shield with a few screws. Somewhere around the top left of the motherboard, you should see the connectors for the LCD amoung other cables. See if there are any modules that are loose by genlty pressing on each one. Please use either a glove or a static strap to do this.
