Ok, this is gonna sound wierd, but, it could be alot of fun.
What I want to do is this,
In my car, i've got a cassete player, and i have a laptop, will one of those cassete adapters you can get for a portable cd play work between the two? if i hook the adapter up to the laptop, and stick it in the tape deck, think it'll work? i know nothin about voltages and what not.
ok, maybe it doesn't sound wierd, it sounds downright stupid and dangerous... but, i can't afford a cd player and this way.... no switchin cd.. just playin 5 gigs of mp3s while i drive... yay!

"i can't afford a cd player"

No offense, but you have a Laptop but cant afford a car CD player. $99 will get you a cd player that will kick the crap outa a tape/headphone convter solution.

Running a Laptop unattended in a car while driving (or worse attended) doesnt sound like a sound idea.

That's what my friend and I did. Thing is, my Sony cassette adapter worked fine for my MD players but when I hooked it up to my laptop, noise didn't come out from the right front and back speakers. My friend had a different cassette adapter and it worked fine, so all you really need is another adapter.

On the note with the ac adapter, I don't think it would work. However we did buy these $30 adapters by Whistler from Overstock.com. You might here some electrical noise, so you should also go out and buy some type of grounder. Not sure of the exact terminology.

Friend of mine has a new Toyota Secoha (how ever you spellit, the big one!) Has dual Nakamishi head units and 4 JL Audio 12's. He has a Dell Latitude? Laptop hooked up to it and plays DVD's for long trips (passengers DUH!) and MP3's through Winamp. And yes the Audio out to his AUX on his Nakimishi sounds just as good as a CD player. Otherwise it wouldn't be competition.

😛

Do EET!

Laptop should work fine, just make sure you get some shock protection for it 🙂 I used a bookpc as an mp3 player for a short time and it sounded ok, better than the crummy tape deck my Honda comes with.

Yeah, I can afford a laptop but not a cd-player.... student loans and "you need this laptop in order to attend college here" rules and such MAKE me afford it.

u can get an mp3 discman for about $50, u already have the adapter... there u go... 150 songs should be enough per trip... i plan to just use my 64mb mp3 player and an adapter for when i drive mom's CD-less car...
