I have an inspiron 1525 and the mousepad is acting a little strange. Every so ofter it will stop working for a few seconds and then start responding again. Its almost as if it is turned off, but after a few seconds it starts working again. This has been happening more often recently. I have tried reinstalling the drivers & when I use a USB mouse it works fine. But also when I first turn the computer on it works fine for the first 5 minutes or so..

Your pad is going bad. This is an easy fix if they are wanting to charge you a bunch for the labor. It requires a philips head screw driver and a little time. On Dells, the pad plugs in below the keyboard.

The keyboard is usually held in by 4 screws and the pad piece is usually held in by 4 screws. You would also have to remove the LCD bezel in some cases which is usually held in by 2 screws.
