You can use anything you want really. But for gaming you might want a wired mouse like the G5 or MX518. For cordless the new Logitech revolution mice are pretty nice or the G7. Ofcourse you could get any of the Diamondback mice also
any USB mouse will work, if you go wireless I'd get one designed for laptops since they'll have a smaller receiver. The mouse plugs into USB. I like the logitech v450, laser so better tracking, nice small USB receiver fits in the mouse, about $50.
I have a Logitech V450 (similar to humanures), and like it. I think these are the best feel for a portable sized laptop mouse. It's a little USB key and the mouse with a power switch on the bottom. My brother and I can both use the same brand fairly close to each other without them interfering. A desktop cordless mouse typically has too many wires to be practical for a laptop (unless you just use it as a desk).
I don't think a cord is too bad to contend with. I ended up using a full sized (G5 size, but much a older optical one) mouse a lot for travel. Don't have to worry about batteries and the cord is barely more annoying than the USB key anyways. Just kind of personal preference. If you all ready have a corded optical mouse of any type, give it a try for a little while to see if you want something else.
