Laptop mouse cursor acting crazy

I've got a touchpad on my Latitude C-840 and I haven't used it in about a week. And last night I sat on the couch to use it. And after I signed in , my arrow took off to the upper right hand corner of the screen. I dragged it back down to the middle of the screen , and off it went to the corner again , WITHOUT ME TOUCHING IT. I dragged it back down , but every time I did that , it took off to the corner , faster and faster.
So I'm getting ticked off , because the first thing I think of , VIRUS, because I let a buddy of mine sit and use it on Sunday. And who knows what he was doing. Anyhow. I had to CTRL + ALT + DEL to get it to shut down , because I couldn't get the mouse to the start window , and I was ticked off. So I didn't hit the windows key and go that route. I know , I know.....anyhow, I booted up the machine again. And now it's doing that at the windows log on screen , and the mouse is going down to the bottom left hand corner. Totally opposite of what it was doing previously , so it's not like there is something stuck on the touchpad triggering a sensor.
I keep the keyboard and mouse pad CLEAN with air , and a detail brush.
Any ideas?

The last time that happened to me it was a messed up pad. You may want to replace it.

does your laptop have a way of turning off the touchpad? that'd help you figure out of it's hardware that's the problem. The only other way of figuring out it out that I can think of would be to take the thing apart and manually disconnect the pad. It'll void your warranty if you have one though.

no , it's not under warranty anymore. And I'm pretty comfortable in taking it apart to give that a shot. Should it be a failing touch pad , are there universal ones available to buy? I've never looked into it.
I just got done with Laptop problems on my brothers machine , so this is perfect timing! And I was hoping to have this thing going for memorial day , looks like I might be SOL..so any other ideas would be cool.

I don't remember exactly where I got my replacement pad, but if you google the part number on it you should find something. They're fairly easy to replace.
