anyone know if its possible to get a laptop monitor repaired? how much does it cost?

i have laptop sitting here that has a bad hard drive and a bad monitor. the screen will flicker for awhile and has an orangeish tint to it, then it goes totally black. if i hook it up to a regular monitor via the port in the back of the laptop, it give perfect picture, so its not the video card, or at least i don't think it is. i don't know much about laptops.

If it is still under warranty, the manufacturer will repair it for you. If not, they will do it anyway, but they will charge you a crazy ammount of money to do it. My friend dropped his laptop, and the screen cracked, Gateway wanted to charge him $600 for parts and labor to change it. If the laptop is somewhat recent, you can buy a panel off ebay and change it yourself. Decent panels cost around $350 or so, maybe cheaper depending on what you need.

It may not be a LCD panel but the converter board. It is usually located around the base of the display and has extremely small connections. Those are also relatively cheap at around $100-$150 for extremely expensive ones and as little as about $20 for cheap ones. What kind of laptop is it?
