Laptop memory models

I'm helping a friend upgrade the memory in her laptop. She has a dell laptop with 1 256MB PC2700 stick with 200 pins. Hence I figured SO-DIMM DDR would fit fine. I purchased this stick of memory:

Problem now is that the memory does not fit. The notch in the memory stick is one pin space off, other than that the two sticks look identical.

Any idea what I should probably be purchasing?

I would go to the Dell support website and verify what they are selling for that particular Inspiron, or use a Memory Configurator on Kingston website.

Good luck!
