Laptop Memory Match

Hello,

I might buy a laptop with 4GB of RAM and I am thinking to add another 4GB on it (it has a free slot). Do I have to add the exact same model-brand RAM, or adding the same type of RAM (DDR3 1333) will be fine?

Thanks

What model is the laptop? RAM will run at the slowest speed installed. You want to add another with the same speed, timings, voltage.

Two ways to check the current install RAM:

1. Uninstall it and look at it, write down model number.
2. In Windows, run CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
-Look for Memory and SPD tabs for RAM info.

Thanks. I haven't bought the Laptop yet so I can't do what you suggest. The Laptop I am mostly considering is "SAMSUNG Ultrabook NP-530U3B"

Wait until you get the laptop in your possession, then identify the so-dimm that's in it.
You won't have to buy the exact brand and model, but same speed, CAS and voltage are advised.
