Laptop memory differences

It doesn't matter: get the memory at the speed your laptop is rated for! If your system is supposed to use PC2100, PC2700 won't matter; it'll throttle back to the PC2100 speed anyways. It's also unlikely that you'll be able to carry over the extra memory to a newer laptop.

There is a difference, not for the CPU, but for the lousy Integrated Chipset
I have a Toshiba M35X with Celeron 1400 (running @100mhz FSB). It came with PC2700 (333mhz) DDR

So I put in a pair of DDR2100, thinking that it won't matters since my CPU is only running @100fsb.
WRONG - it crash my laptop every 5 minutes. It turn out that the Integrated Chipset actually do utilize the faster PC2700.
