I will be making a new desktop, and won't use my old laptop anymore, so is there any way I could make this into a Wireless Media Server for my iPod, Nexus 7, Desktop, and my TV?

What type of media are you trying to share?
-Video typically requires one of the devices to be wired, not wireless
-Music files would probably work fine with both devices wireless

What type of network connection are you using for the clients and server?
-wireless clients are b, g, or n?
-wired client(s)/server? what speed?

What are the laptop specs for these devices?
-CPU
-RAM
-disk drive(s)

The answer to the question is yes, but YMMV depending on some variables listed.

I use Plex for videos. There are apps for iOS, Android, and Windows.

What's the CPU (for transcoding with Plex), and does the laptop have HDMI out (for the TV)?

To act as a network server the laptop has to be connected to the Router.

Since the server is stationary you are better off connecting it with a Network wire to the Router.

There is many free Media server software that can be installed onto Windows in order to serve and stream from the laptop.

How well it will work is depending on the laptop's specs.

With a decent DLNA media server like Plex, Mezzmo, Tversity, Twonky you can make it work but I wouldn't count on wireless for this task. If the laptop has an ethernet port, just wire it in. You'll wanna make sure that all of your devices support your video file types because converting HD on the fly with that CPU may be problematic.
