Laptop making a noise

Just recently my IBM T43 has started to make this really annoying high-pitched noise. It sounds like it's coming from near the escape key. It goes off for a few seconds once in a while, but besides that it's constant. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

It could either be your display or some power circuitry inside - I know some LCDs make a high-pitched noise at certain brightness/frequency settings...

I found out that whenever a Website is loading, or I'm putting my HD under a load... like defragging, it stops. Other then that, it's constant. Is my HD dying?

Id wager a guess at yes. I mean if the noise changes when the HDD is being used or accessed, id say the sound is coming from the HDD. Id back up ASAP
