Laptop Maintenance

My wife has a Dell 600m that she has had for a couple of years.
We live in a dusty area. Is it possible or necessary to have them cleaned/blown out? She's starting to run into BSOD every once in a while.
It has XP Pro on it and 512 MB RAM (265 X 2). Since RAM is so cheap and she's multi tasking now, I am thinking of going to 512 X 2.

Even if you can't open it up, get some canned air and spray out the fan intake/outtake, though that may not do any good if you're seriously clogged with dust.

A laptop lends itself better to suction than blowing. Blowing can loosen dust and dirt, but then it has no place to go. Suck it out with a vacuum.
