Laptop Loses CMOS Settings.

I'm the original owner of a Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop that the batter no longer holds a charge. Its been this way for probably about a year or so..
My question is, are laptops the same as desktop's as they have the small CR2032 lithium battery on the mainboard, which is responsible for maintaining the BIOS, or do laptops use the main battery for this function?

They have a dedicated CMOS battery, but it might be a special one. Check the manual for your laptop on Dell's website and see

Yeah.. Just found it. Never even thought about checking the Dell website, until you mentioned it. Dell refers to this battery as the "Reserver Battery".
Thanks!
