Laptop lights strobing

Hey all i'm wondering if anyone can help with my laptop

I have a dell inspiron and it's been working great until a few weeks ago when all of the sudden, it stopped working.

I took it to my parent's house and plugged in the AC adapter to the wall. When i plugged the AC into the laptop, the 3 little lights on the laptop, for Power, Disk Use and Battery (i think) started blinking REALLy fast, like dance club strobe lights. The laptop wouldnt turn on, so i sat and thought about it for a minute. A few minutes later, the strobing lights stopped and the laptop turned on. I used it for the rest of the weekend with no problem.

I brought it home and plugged it in and now the same thing happens EXCEPT now, it doesnt ever stop and i can't ever turn the laptop on. There is no response from the laptop other than the blinking lights.

I tried removing the battery, as well as keeping it unplugged for a while and trying later. Days have passed and its still the same thing.

I wanted to open it and check to see if maybe i could find some damage or pull the CMOS battery, but the screws are so small and crappy, and my little screwdriver set appears to be stripping some of them.

Any ideas???

[EDIT] - I left it plugged in with the battery in and the lights stopped blinking after about an hour. The right green light came on, which i think means its charging, so i turned the laptop on. It booted for about 10 seconds and then turned off again. The lights started strobing again...

Seems like a bad AC Adapter to me. Anyone got any idaes?

It does sound like something may be wrong with the electrical system (either the AC adapter or the power supply inside the laptop). But my first response would be that the power button on the laptop is stuck so the machine is constantly turning itself on and off.
