I have a PIII Laptop that is too expensive to repair: Motherboard dammaged; Power Supply and battery stolen; HDD has bad sectors. The screen is in a good condition and is working. Is there any way I can use the TFT on a desktop PC.

somebody stole a proprietary battery only and the power supply but not the notebook...or did somebody steal the notebook without also getting the battery and power supply?

I have heard the equipment for making it work on a PC will cost more than a new LCD itself....

It's possible the laptop was secured by some sort of device...something simple even, such as a cable/combo lock. Would lock down the base unit but a theif could strip it down. Sorta like a thief stealing tires and the stereo but not the actual car or parts themselves. Although given enough time a theif could open up the system and get the guts of the laptop, but that would be harder than it would be for a PC and most likely less fruitful as laptop parts aren't as easily as pawned off I would think. Big thing about laptops and theft is that, if you don't have it locked down, someone can just come in, pick it up and be on their way with a new laptop. Locking it down would prevent someone from just a quick grab and go, and a smarter laptop theif would proably jack the more easily removable items mostly out of anger or sheer theft experience.

you can, but you need to by a controller card for it. In laptops, the controller card is integrated onto the mobo or the vid card. You need to buy one that takes video in from your vid card and formats to the screen.

The reason people say its more expensive is because it typically is. Controller boards usually run between 200 and 800 dollars for most panels.

Google it, you'll find some places that sell them. You'll need to know the panel model #, usually on a sticker on the rear of it. Oh, and you might need to keep the backlight power inverter, so don't throw it away!
