Laptop LCD Screens

I'm thinking about buying a laptop on eBay, but the laptop doesn't come with an LCD screen. When I buy the LCD screen, does the screen have to be one specific brand , would I have to buy the same model's LCD screen?

laptops like this are being sold for parts scavenging purpose only. I can bet you right now it'll cost you at least another $400-$500 to get a brand new LCD since it'll have to be the same brand as the laptop.

You have to buy a compatible LCD.

I know my Dell Inspiron 8000 uses 2 or 3 different LCD's from different manufacturers. I'm pretty sure other laptop brands do the same thing.

As mentioned above, you will need a "compatible" LCD screen. A while back, I think I got end-user pricing on a generic (compatible with many types of LCD's) LCD for about $450.00 plus shipping.
