Laptop LCD screen is very dim...

Would it be worth spending $90 on an inverter to fix it? I've tried the brightness setting, there's no bios Gamma setting and i've tried on AC and battery.

I've also seen replacement screens for $300, but I've never replaced anything beyond regular stuff in a laptop before, so i'm unsure..

PS it's out of warranty
