I recently got a laptop for free from a friend with a cracked LCD. The laptop is in great condition except for the cracked LCD. I've been trying to find a replacement but have been unable to locate one. I looked on Ebay but the product numbers never quite match exactly. I'm wondering if the product numbers on the back of the LCD need to be exactly the same, or if most of the Dell Inspiron LCDs are compatible. And if they're not, where would a good place be to find a used LCD replacement. I'm trying not to spend more than $200. I know I can geta replacement for about $4-500 but that's about as much as the laptop is worth.

It's a Dell Inspiron 8100
1.3ghz P3
256mb RAM
16mb video card

I can get more specific inofrmation if needed. Thanks in advance for the help.

I think that you might have to be a little careful since you've got a 16mb video card. This auction states that his UXGA 15" screen isn't compatible with the 16mb cards:

Do you know what size and resolution your screen is? Is it a 14.1" SXGA like this one:

Ebay is still probably your best bet, but I would contact dell to verify if your laptop/video card combination can use a UXGA 15" screen.
