Laptop LCD Repair?

I have a Compaq Armada 1592 laptop and I'm pretty sure the backlight is dead. I've opened it up and found (only through a label, nop visual confirmation) that is uses a cold cathode to light the display. Can this be replaced or fixed?

Are you sure the backlight is burned out? Most of the time the Voltage inverter is the problem, check that it is putting out the right voltage

A few weeks ago my Compaq Presario laptop display was dead and it really freaked me out. After messing around with it for a while I found that there's a switch in the hole to the latch which holds the lid down; when you close the laptop, the latch activates the switch and turns off the backlight of the LCD. So it was just a simple mechanical problem with this switch getting caught. I was really relieved.

Just something that you might want to check.. You said you opened it up so this may be something you've already checked, but I figured better safe than sorry.

K, well after close inspection, the bulb is definately dead, and by that I mean broken in half 🙁

And I'm assuming the inverter is working okay when I use a multimetre on it and I not only get I think 15 volts but it also arcs 🙂

Any idea where I can pick up a bulb for a decent price?
