Laptop LCD on a 12' cable?

I would like to remove the LCD from a laptop and run it from an approximately 12' cable. I would like to have the display up at eye level, but the laptop itself tucked way back in the corner. Is this possible, or does it become unreliable/useless at distances greater than a few inches?
