Laptop LCD backlight not staying on. Already replaced inverter.

The problem is that the LCD backlight turns on, then at random times will turn off.

I've replaced the inverter, and that didn't fix the problem.

If I connect an external display to the laptop, the laptop lights up again, then eventually shuts off. When I disconnect the external display, the display lights up, then eventually shuts off.

Would a faulty backlight turn off and on? Sometimes the light is on for a few minutes, sometimes it's only on for a few seconds.

Any thoughts?

change the backlight.

The backlight is controlled by another pair of wires. I had this problem when I didn't have the connector fully inserted. You could have a break in the wires too, since I believe that these go through the hinge.
