Laptop keyboard

I have a 7 year old Dell Vostro 1500. Some of the keys all of a sudden stopped working. I tried cleaning the contacts and dusting/cleaning out the laptop and that did not help. I bought a replacement keyboard from Amazon and that does not help either. I'm beginning to think it's not the keyboard itself, but rather the connector that the keyboard attaches to.

Anyone have any idea what that "part" is called, and if you can replace it?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be nice.

Thanks!

Yeah I cleaned the connectors. The connector was hooked to some black clip and so i carefully unhooked it and reconnected everything and it seems to work now. I think perhaps it was being shorted somehow.
