Laptop keyboard (water splashed into it) fixable by non-computer guy?

I have a coworker who was goofing around with a cup which had a bit of water in the bottom. Splashed some all over his desk and into the keyboard of one of those newer compaq laptops (which belongs to another coworker, who's now very pissed off that he loaned his computer). There's a few months of warranty left on that laptop, though I have to wonder if it's valid to send it in after misusing the equipment like that.... my question is, it's been drying for 2 weeks now (so a few keys appear not to be working)... is this something he can fix himself? Anybody with compaq experience know if that laptop is going to be fixed under warranty if he sends it in?

next time that happens.. turn the laptop up side down right away so the water won't get into the circuit board... then wait til all the water drips off then take off each key and dry it. ... but now i guess all u can do it take it apart and clean it ... i.e take off the keys and the cover....

Most laptop keyboards can be removed as one piece. Then you can get the part number and order a whole new keyboard for it. It is connected by a flat ribbon cable (the plastic-coated metal connects)
