Laptop keyboard not responding...

So my mom's laptop keyboard all of a sudden stopped responding. The mouse pad at the bottom of the keyboard still works, and when she plugs a keyboard into the side, that works, but thats it.

I know this is broad but anyone have any ideas what could be wrong or of possible solutions? I dont want to let my mommy down.

Laptop keyboards are known to go bad (especially IBM Thinpads).

What Make/Brand/Model?

All I know is it's an HP....not sure of the particular model though

Make sure that somehow a setting in BIOS did not get changed to "external keyboard."

As a check, you might try connecting an external USB or PS/2 keyboard depending on the laptop's ports.

there also may be a function key that disables/enables the built in keyboard.
