Hey everyone, I've got a laptop and recently the d key won't register when I press it, if I hold then it comes up but regularly it inputs the character a few times, I've cleaned the key and had a look at it, there isn't any dirt and it does this even when I press down on the little clear pressure thing under it, I've not spilled anything on it.
I just don't know what to do about it, I'm currently using ctrl-c and ctrl-v to input the character, if any of you could help I'd be very grateful. :)

Thanks

It sounds like the switch for the "D" key may be failing. If so, laptop keyboards are usually impossible to repair, and it's almost always easier and cheaper to replace them.

Search Google for your make and model + keyboard. When I had to do this, I found the hardest part was finding a trustworthy, reliable source. Most of those you will find are offshore. If your laptop is new enough that it's worth the price, try to find one from a U.S. based vendor with good ratings from sources like resellerratings.com.

FWIW, when I needed one for my Compaq laptop, I found it at a good price at laptoppartsexpert.com. At the time, they were based in Orange County, Ca., but they have since merged with AER Worldwide in Fremont, Ca. That gives you a local phone and recourse if there is any problem with your order.

Good luck. :)

Very true on the above posts.
Not sure if your keyboard uses membrane type or mechanical. I suspect it uses membrane. Did you shake it upside down any?

It's an "Acer Aspire E1-572"
I'm currently living in Scotland but I'll have a look about and maybe get another one.
I've tried shaking it upside down and nothing's happened. :/

I found your keyboard at a U.S. vendor, cdsparts.com for $19.99 USD. I don't know if they ship to Scotland or how much they would charge for shipping, but if it's reasonable, they have very good reviews on resellerratings.com.

At least now, you have a reference while searching for a closer vendor.

Before you start, you should try to locate the service manual for your model which should show you how to remove the old keyboard and install the new one. If you can't locate one online, try contacting Acer to see if they can give you a link to it.

Hope that helps. :)
