laptop keeps losing my bluetooth mouse - is there a better way to solve this

I continually have to reinstall my Dell travel Mouse to my LapTop.
Part of that process asks me about pairing, but offers connecting a mouse as usually unpaired. Does that make sense? Can it be paired? Will that prevent future problems? Sorry if this has been adressed before. I could not find any information here on it.
