I posted this in tech support, but got no responses....

I have an IBM thinkpad 390E that had a harddrive failure. I bought 2 harddrives off the forums for the machine. When I loaded XP on the first one, everything was fine until the XP screen that you get on first boot (where it says WINDOWS XP. Please Wait). It locked up at that point. I restarted the comptuer, and it took me to my desktop. It worked for a few minutes, and then froze up.

I tried the second harddrive, and am having the same issues. Therefore, I am sure it is not the harddrive. I switched out the RAM, and it still freezes up. When it freezes up, the light showing harddrive activity is always on. Has anyone had this problem, or have an idea what might be causing it?

I'd be looking at going into the BIOS and disabling unneccesary things, and unplug any peripherals if there are any plugged into it.

Start easy, then move onto other things if problems persist.
