My gf's laptop is just freezing up when trying to boot it. It's an Acer Aspire w/ core duo 1.6ghz. It was bought 1-2 months ago.

Last night we used it and shut it down for the night, then we wake up and it just won't work anymore.

The Acer screen appears, and the loading bar goes to about 75% and freezes up completely, we can't do anything. Once I managed to get to the setup menu by pressing F2 real quick and once I was in there it was frozen as well. Another time the loading screen went through only to give us a black screen with a white line flashing in the top left.

We do run anti-virus on the laptop so I doubt it was a virus.

Could it be hardware failure? Weird considering it's brand new and it worked just fine when we turned it off last.

Any suggestion/troubleshooting ideas?

thanks

It sounds like a BIOS/hardware problem. You should contact ACER since it's still under warranty.

I called them and they just said "re-install Windows". They always say that don't they?

Could it even be Windows acting up? It happens even before Windows loads. It takes 10 mins just to boot up the laptop. (We got it to work finally by just waiting and waiting)
