well i went on a plane and watched a movie on the plane. battery died so i left it there. i then came to the hotel at the end of the day and i get this weird problem where the display on the screen is looking weird and then my comp crashes and a BSOD comes up and says something with the video card drivers is messed up. this is showing how it looks when its messed up and when i shake or press down on my laptop in different areas the screen changes effects of the same problem.

laptop- msi 1029( aka M635)

cliffs:
messed up comp
on vactation
dont know the problem except the BSOD
need to RMA

my advice is if you're going to get an RMA, you might as well put an electric charge through a paper clip and stick it in where the exhaust blows out and fry the entire thing.

that way they replace more parts, which to your advantage, will be less likely to fail next time.

j/k, but for real, if you do it, let us know how it goes.

it's probably the ram. same thing happened with my friend's dell. they replaced the motherboard and a bunch of parts before they figured out it was the ram. the video card uses shared ram so bad ram means video corruption and crashing.

My laptop has dedicated Ram for video card... so it must be that.. any one else?

i got an idea, if your ram is using two sticks, take one out and use only the other and switch 'em around again if the same thing happens?

tell us more about the boot process from when you hit the power button 'n the options you have available after that?

so can anyone think anything? i have 1 stick of ram but i can try a stick of ram from a different laptop. I'll try that later today, but i need more answers.

Don't shake your laptop - what do you think it is - fruit juice with an lcd?

If you have been in the habit of shaking/poking/prodding your poor lappy, then it is most likely a hw issue.

ok so i tested different ram and same problem. gonna get a new mobo. btw i dont shake or press down on my laptop if i were to move my laptop u can see on the screen the problem i mean. when i see this i try to press down if spots to see where its happening. if i open the laptop and run it open, i press down on the video card heat sink and it seems that the problem happens then.

Could be something as simple as a little soldering needed.

Are you able to take out the mobo from that laptop?
If you are, then (apart from me taking my hat off to you), you might want to play around with the vid card on the mobo, but gently you thug. 🙂

well maybe this can help. i live in florida ( sea lvl) and im on vacation in colorado( 1 mile high altitude). maybe the pressure change screwed it up and was fine in the air but whrn they opened the cabin it got messed up and ill change when i get back?

Wouldn't have thought so. Many thousands of laptops do the same trip each year. We would have heard about such happenings.

Probably is your vid card.
Which probably means its time to get a new lappy.

maybe when they made the mobo( vid card intergrated) they messed up so my laptop doesnt work at high altitude. i dont need a new lappy cause i can just buy a new mobo from MSI. its $180
