Laptop is destroying hard drives

First hard drive in the laptop flat out died mechanically. Second hard drive after ~1.5y began showing bad sectors. Third hard drive died mechanically after 3 weeks. Fourth hard drive in its 7th month is showing errors in the file structure and cannot be worked with when connected to my desktop computer.

It's a Toshiba laptop, about 3 years old. I'm tired of replacing hard drives. Is this just horrible luck, or is it possible the laptop is causing the failures?

Probably bad luck.. Do you carry your laptop around a lot or does it stay in one place? Hard drives are very sensitive to shock so if you bang it around too much it may be "user error" causing this bad luck. I had my laptop sitting on my suitcase in a backpack at the airport and it fell over. Dead the next time i tried it from a 3 foot fall with a padded landing. You are probably under warranty at least.
