Is this possible? my laptop (dell D800) has an IR port and i want to control our home theater from it, cept i cant find any software for it. I know that the palms can do it cause i use "omniremote" on it and works fine. There has to be a proggie somewhere....anyone ever done this or know where to find software to do this?

the IR from the laptop is not as strong as the ones from the remote controls. if you want your laptop\s transmitter\receiver to be 2-3 feet from the receiver of the tv, that's fine...

I looked into this when I first got my laptop and other people told me that they had looked into it too. The consensus seemed to be that it was impossible. One person even said that laptop IR ports don't work like TV remotes.

nope... PDAs work fine. At least, those with "consumer grade" IR ports. The iPAQ 2210 is a good example. It even comes with pre-loaded universal remote software!
