Laptop internal batteries

Just hypothesizing, not really sure if it's even possible, but if i have an extra internal laptop battery laying around, is there a way to make it work as an external source of juice?

I guess kinda along the lines of an internal hard drive with an enclosure...

You could if you know what connector of the battery does what. I would not recommend it, though, because Li-ion battery discharges differently from other battery types(such as NiMH, NiCd, Lead acid) and required microprocessor control to cut off the power if it drops below a certain point. You cannot discharge Li-ion completely or they'll die.
