Laptop instead of Desktop in big corporate network

coolVariable

I started a new job with a big company today and at my workplace I have a Desktop with NT4.0 on it.
Would it be possible to plug my Laptop into the Network instead of the Desktop?
(it has WinXP, Office XP, etc on it and going back to all these old programs is giving me crap 😉 )
What exactly do I need to do?

1. Log on to Windows with the same Logon/Username?
2. Copy/Install all other needed programs
3. Import Email-settings from desktop
...

will this work?

Will the Sysadmin notice the difference (or better anything)? I don't wanna get crap about messing around their Network 😉

Ohh, and how do I find out passwords that are only ***** ?

Isn't there a program that makes them readable? Or that displays the text as a mouse over tag?
I had it once under Win95?/98?....

Hi,
First, don't piss of your administrators! These guys work real hard (cough cough) to keep your netowrk up and running. It should be an easy enough switch over to the laptop, but you should consult the administrators first. As far as I know they should not be able to know you changed anything if you do it properly, but if you don't they most certainly will. WinXP will be able to do all the same networking as a NT4 client in most circumstances. Just ask first is my only suggestion.
As Always,
D

Having a standardized workspace is required by employers in most cubicle farms these days. You will probably be violating the terms of your employment contract if you modify or circumvent the standardized workspace without your administrator's permission.

If you are legit and are not trying to f**k up the LAN, remind me again exactly why you want to know this???

It all depends on how the LAN is established. It may or may not work. Personally if you do this without consulting the Administrator I hope they put your ass in a sling and fire you right out the door. People like you make the job a bigger headache.

Why exactly don't you want your Administrator to find out??? Sounds fishy to me.
