I've been looking around. I've come to make some must haves like Centrino and a dvd player. After that i have no idea what else i can use. I want to use it to watch dvd's on it alot and move around here and there. So i lighter weight laptop would suit me better then a 8 lb one. Another thing is i would need to to be around stores here. Such as Bestbuy, circuit city, Fry's, microcenter. compusa. Because i want to get an warranty on it as well. My budget is about 1000$ i'm in chicago area so any stores here would do. I dont know what to look out for. whats some good stuff to have and what are bad things. I really have no freaking clue what i'm getting into. this will be my first laptop. I dont need all the bells and whistles either. i highly doubt i'll be gaming with this. more movie watching and web browsing. Maybe some teching refreneceings on automotives. PDF stuff will be use a lot. Stuff like that. post any more questions you might need to match me up with a good match

i've seen this acer at 1000 even at times after rebates.

Dells 700m are somethign aswell

screensize.. i would love 15.4 wide but i mean nothing in mind really. just nothing too small. i think 14.1 or so would be the smallest i would deal with. Max resolution. not really i run it on 1xxx X7xx normally

I game on the side ever so slightly. but not hardcore. i lack the games. I only have CS but i dont think i'm going to CS on this. I mean i'll try it and if its crap i'll stop. simple as that.

I have the gateway 4530gz, i love this thing, almost the same as the 4520gz but with a dvd burner, its thin and light. i have had it for about 3 months now and it works awesome, the only complaint i have is that the max res is only 1024x768

eh.. thats the only res i use. i never liked the bigger stuff. makes me blind. i have poor vision already. Why do people use a bigger res? How much did you pay for your gateway?

Anyone else wanna help a rookie out on it? I;ve seen the acer in person didn't mess around with it yet but you cant really do much with the store models i need to take it and run big programs. and besides store models they add a 256mb stick aleast in there and slightly OC. making it seem faster. i've asked about it and the guy pretend to know nothing of it.
