Laptop: IBM v.s. Toshiba v.s. Compaq?

A friend's laptop (Compaq) broke, so she had to send it back to get it fixed. Anyway, so on one occasion, I told her and others that IBM and Toshiba are only the brands that you wanna touch when it comes to laptop. (probably some people would say Dell too). But a guy said that IBM sucks....
I still think IBM is still the best though....

Dell. Can't beat the amount of features they put in for the price... ESPECIALLY if you keep your eye out for the hot deal.

IBM is overpriced junk. My ThinkPad was getting really hot, came with a loud hard drive, had an anti-ergonomic shape, etc. Dell, baby!

i love my compaq 2800t, its desktop replacement thats thin, light, and powerful. The comparable dell model feel flimsy and cheap, dont know how it run though.

IBM Thinkpad T. It's an expensive, but well built machine. Dell is great for features and price/performance, but I have issues with Dell Notebook construction. Hopefully this will change in the near future.

IBM T-series are nice, but they're a little too expensive for what you get. A bunch of people in my class have R-series and they look kinda cheap, yet they still cost a few hundreds more than a Dell with better specs. (R32 I think is the model the school recommends to students)

According to a recent study done by pcmag.com on notebook Dell's customer rating went down and the percent of ppl needing repair went up. Fujitsu has the lowest percent of ppl needing repair. HP, Toshiba, IBM and Apple all got A ratings on customer service. Though Compaq is now part of HP, it recieves a lower rating than HP, rather odd.

IBM, IBM, IBM, IBM. No other company supports their computers like IBM does. Dell support just keeps getting worse (see PC Mag latest annual poll) and Compaq has always stunk. I have had an IBM T20 for 2 1/2 years now and it has been reliable and rugged. I swapped out the 10 Gig HD for a Hitachi 30 Gig three months ago, and installed Windows 2000. IBM had all the Win2000 drivers on their support web site. IBMs may not be the prettiest, but you can depend on them.

Honestly I have used different laptops for all the manf. in your poll, though mostly Dell and Compaq. I'd say that they all had/have good and bad laptops, just depends on what you need. As far as branding though (since that's what the poll really is), I'd go with IBM, Dell and Compaq.
