I feel my desktop is a decent if it would be converted into a desktop. i'm running at p4 1.6ghz, 512mb and 80gb's with a geforce4 card. i'm looking for a laptop with those specs. i'm a student at a automotive place. So i need to run specs on cars every now and then. I need something that can be carried around easy and some thing that can stand a hit. Also my g/f will be using it too for her nursing stuff. In the car it will be a dvd player. Aside from that i cant think of anything else i would be using.

I was mainly looking at those avertec ones, i've seen them at base price for 1099$ but after rebates they would run about 1000$ after tax.

Can anyone give me suggestions on a laptop.

I really wanted to get the 600m a couple days ago when i was able to get one for $750's but i was late on that. After i configed everything the sale expired. and i wasn't going to pay 1500 for something.

yes but not at 750-800$ price ranges. I never really looked into the 600m untill the sale. I've always kept my eye on that avertec one cuase of the wieght and size but heard bad things about the Video card.

I've owned a 600m and was hardly impressed. While the weight and size and specs are rather deciving in my opinion as it does not really pass for an superlite laptops. Its just too dang bulky to be carried arould easily.

I say you look into a Dell Inspiron 700m or 300m. They 700ms are both being sold on ebay in mass quanities due to the past Dell deal. Also something to consider is checking out the Dell outlet site as they often have pretty decent laptop deals if you are persistant (their stock changes continiously). I've seen 600ms with fair spec (like 1.5 Celeron/256mb/dvd/cdrw) in the $700 range.

BTW I've used an Avertec laptops and while they seam nice for the price I really thing there are a lot better laptops to be had for the price. Also Avertec's support from what I hear is terrible and it is often hard or expensive to purchase replacment batteries. For that kind of budget I really think you should go with a Dell. They offer decent support, and there are always deals to get upgrades/accessoires for them pretty cheaply.

Just upgraded from an Avertec to a 700m, the Avertec felt much cheaper & got very hot on the bottom, it was also significantly louder-(fan noise)

Just wait for the next massive Dell deal, they should have one more this month (the end of their fiscal year)

A laptop that has decent built quality and decent specs are the Acer Travelmate. However the only quirk is the slightly curved keyboard which in my opinion is more comfortable than a 600x's keyboard. The price is just as low as Dells but quality is better.

There are some one time use 25% off Dell SB coupons floating around (that expire today and pretty sure there is no limit). Check Chubby wallet forums for those. That is what I did. Ended up paying about $60-$100 more then I would have if I bought it on fleabay, but I get it straight from dell and got to configure it myself.
